Inflammatory & Infective Back Pain: Diagnosis & Non-Surgical Management

Comprehensive Clinical History, Spondyloarthropathies, and Non-Surgical Protocols in Orthopaedics

This session features structured medical lectures dedicated to the clinical evaluation, differential diagnosis, and management of inflammatory and infective spine disorders. It focuses on taking detailed clinical histories, identifying articular and extra-articular manifestations, performing specialised physical examination manoeuvres (e.g., Schober's test, gait analysis), correlating serological and radiological markers, and applying multi-modal conservative management strategies for conditions like seronegative spondyloarthropathies (SSA), ankylosing spondylitis, and spinal infections.

Pathology & Diagnostics: Differentiating inflammatory from mechanical backache, extra-articular and articular manifestations (enthesopathies, ophthalmic, GIT, GUT, skin), diagnostic criteria for Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) and DISH, clinical tests (Schober’s test, round back deformity, ankylosing gait), differential diagnosis (RA vs. SSA, juvenile presentation, fibromyalgia, pyogenic vs. tuberculous spondylodiscitis), and role of lab and imaging studies (ESR, CRP, HLA-B27, pelvic X-rays with caudal tilt).

Therapeutics & Management: Pharmacological protocols (NSAIDs, disease-modifying biologics), physical therapy and thermal modalities for acute vs chronic phases, prevention of exacerbations and long-term joint ankylosis, holistic patient counselling and compliance, and clinical follow-up criteria.

Meet Your Instructor: Dr. P. S. Mamtora, M. S. (Ortho.)

Dr. P. S. Mamtora is a distinguished Orthopaedic Surgeon renowned for his surgical precision and gift for simplifying complex anatomy.

In this recorded session, he shares decades of clinical insights from MAMCOTS (Dr. Mamtora’s Clinical Orthopaedic Teaching Series) to help you build "clinical intuition." Learn to refine your physical examination techniques, differentiate complex spinal pathologies, and master non-surgical management to bridge the gap between primary care and specialised spinal surgery.
