Shoulder Pathologies & Clinical Examination: Diagnosis & Management

Comprehensive Anatomy, Physical Examination, Imaging & Evidence-Based Protocols in Orthopaedics

This session features structured medical lectures dedicated to the functional evaluation, clinical diagnosis, and management of complex shoulder disorders. It focuses on taking detailed clinical histories, understanding biomechanical evolution, performing specialised physical examination manoeuvres (e.g., Drop Arm sign, Apprehension test, Hawkins test, Jobe's test), correlating radiographic and MRI findings, and applying conservative and therapeutic strategies for rotator cuff pathologies, shoulder instability, calcific tendinitis, and frozen shoulder.

  • Pathology & Diagnostics: Biomechanical evolution of the shoulder complex, functional vs. patho-anatomy, differential diagnosis of shoulder vs. cervical spine pain (cervical radiculopathy), visual inspection techniques (muscle atrophy, joint prominence), range of motion (ROM) scoring, clinical examination tests (rotator cuff assessment, SLAP tear detection, AC joint disruption, joint laxity), and diagnostic imaging evaluation (plain radiography Y/outlet view, subacromial impingement, MRI of periarthritis and Hill-Sachs lesions).
  • Therapeutics & Management: Evidence-based physical therapy and rehabilitation protocols, immobilisation strategies (shoulder immobiliser vs arm sling), closed reduction techniques for anterior shoulder dislocation, integrated therapeutic approaches (including homoeopathic options for calcific tendinitis), prevention of secondary frozen shoulder, patient counselling, and follow-up criteria.

Meet Your Instructor: Dr. P. S. Mamtora, M. S. (Ortho.)

Dr. P. S. Mamtora is a distinguished Orthopaedic Surgeon renowned for his surgical precision and gift for simplifying complex anatomy.

In this recorded session, he shares decades of clinical insights from MAMCOTS (Dr. Mamtora’s Clinical Orthopaedic Teaching Series) to help you build "clinical intuition." Learn to refine your physical examination techniques, differentiate complex shoulder and cervical spine pathologies, and master both non-surgical and bedside management to bridge the gap between clinical history-taking and advanced orthopaedic practice.
